The CBSO performs over 130 concerts every year. Each concert season ranges from symphonic classics and virtuosic concertos to grand opera and cutting-edge contemporary music, while popular Friday night shows and lively family concertos performed at Symphony Hall in Birmingham offer world-class music-making for all tastes and ages.
The 2016-17 Concert Season – the first with new Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla - will feature concerts that celebrate The Spirit of England - a host of operatic and choral classics and music from the years 1916-1917 as part of our CBSO: 2020 centenary countdown.
The season will provide all of the sensational symphonies and world-class concerto soloists you would want and expect from a CBSO season with highlights including: The Enigma Variations in December 2016, Handel's Semele in January 2017, Holst's The Planets in February 2017, British Classics and Yeomen of the Guard in March 2017, Alison Balsom: Lanterne of Light in May 2017 and Beethoven's Seventh in June 2017.
